Allianz Dare to Believe Festival

30th October 2017
On 20th October Young Leaders from Slated Row led an Allianz and Youth Sport Trust festival entitled ''Dare to Believe' at Sir Herbert Leon Academy.  This is a follow up from the Paralympics and designed to increase school childrens knowledge of Paralympic sports and Dare them to Believe in themselves and others.
Some of our leaders are shown in the photos with Allianz volunteers. Firstly they taught the volunteers the activities of Sitting Volleyball, Boccia, Adapted athletics and Goalball and then worked together to give 100 primary school children from Bushfield, Fairfields, Whitehouse, Chesnuts, Slated Row and Furzedown schools taster sessions.  Thanks to the sponsorship all participants went home with water bottles and wrist bands to remind them on the day. Our Athlete mentor, former Paralympic footballer, Alistair Patrick Hesleton was in attendance on the day inspiring and encouraging all the students to do their best and believe in themselves.
The event organiser from Youth Sport Trust wrote to Slated Row after the event and said this:
'I wanted to pop you a line to say a massive thank you and well done for what was a terrific Dare to Believe Festival. We had a call from the lead from Allianz last week and they were buzzing and really happy with the festival and they also send their thanks. pass on our very best to your Young Leaders who were terrific. They certainly left an amazing memory in the minds of the Allianz volunteers and inspired them to get more involved in similar projects in the future.'
We made such a good impression that we have been asked to deliver a second festival at Radcliffe School on 7th December.  Congratulations to all leaders you did yourselves and the school proud.
