Welcome to our website, it has been designed to help you find out about Slated Row, its staff, Governors and pupils. I do hope you find it informative and that it gives you something of the ‘flavour’ of our school.
Slated Row is a special school for children aged from 4 to 19, providing mainly for children who have moderate learning difficulties, although many have more complex special educational needs. The school is oversubscribed with 182 pupils on roll. The school occupies an attractive site conveniently situated on the edge of Wolverton in the town of Milton Keynes. A team of experienced and dedicated staff work hard to provide a secure, caring and safe environment where each individual is valued and appropriately challenged. The school is a happy place to work and learn and we are proud of our pupils’ achievements.
Slated Row is a Local Authority maintained special school, managing a delegated budget. We are one of six special schools which fall within the Milton Keynes unitary authority. Children come to the school from many parts of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. Most come by minibus or taxi provided by the Local Authority, but older pupils if appropriate are encouraged to travel on public transport with the use of bus passes to aid their independence. The promotion of independence is a major priority throughout the school, with many opportunities provided for pupils to participate in community based projects and experiences.
The school enjoys the confidence and support of its parents and the wider community. We believe strongly that pupils make most progress when supported by a strong partnership between parents and the school and many opportunities to visit the school both formally and informally are offered. The school’s governing body is also extremely supportive, hardworking and able. Its structure and standing orders ensure that they maintain a detailed working knowledge of the school, placing them in an excellent position to steer its future development.
Slated Row is a friendly, caring and orderly establishment where high standards of teaching, learning, motivation, application and behaviour are the expected norm. This not only ensures a safe and happy environment, but also a willingness to achieve and try one’s best. These qualities are precisely those sought by further education training schemes and employers when your child leaves school.
